DATABASES

This section compiles databases for general purpose and specific applications. General purpose databases include information about miRNA nomenclature, sequence and genome localization. Specialized databases are very diverse, but they include webpages with a focused objective linking miRNAs to a particular process, cell compartment or disease.

TARGETS

MiRNA function is only justified by the simultaneous presence of their mRNA targets. This section includes servers for target prediction, functional analysis and databases with experimentally validated targets.

Next generation sequencing tools

These applications are designed for the analysis of smallRNA-seq data from next generation sequencing experiments with special focus on those allowing interaction by a user-friendly interface.

In silico TOOLS

The selected applications are designed for the computational prediction of miRNA genes within sequences. They use several  algorithms, including neural networks and SVM. A small subsection also includes applications for the prediction and analysis of 2D and 3D structural information extracted from RNA sequences.

PLANT miRNAs

MiRNA action in plants is exerted also by their binding to mRNA targets. However, the degree of complementarity between the miRNA and its targets is close to 100%. For this reason, the classic applications for target prediction are not useful in the case of plant miRNAs. These compilation of servers are specifically designed for miRNA target prediction in plant cells.

TUTORIALS

This section includes a tutorial for the functional analysis of a particular miRNA, starting from its nomenclature, sequence, and functional assesment, using links to several databases and web applications.
